AGM hears plans progressing for a new Province & Multiplication of Dioceses

This year’s AGM was, like so many other meetings these days, online. But with that, it opened up huge possibilities and as such we were joined by partners and friends from USA, Brazil, Portugal and of course Mozambique, Angola and the UK.

During this meeting, we heard a fascinating presentation from Bishops Carlos, Andre, Vicente and Manuel on the Creation of a new Portuguese speaking Province and multiplication of the Dioceses within both Mozambique & Angola. The province of Anglican Church of southern Africa has approved the creation of a new Province and so it now moves to the approval of the Anglican Communion.

“There are over half a million Anglicans in Mozambique & Angola. “

As far as future multiplication, in total there will be 8 Dioceses in Mozambique (3 at present) and 4 Dioceses in Angola. To put it into perspective, Angola is 5 times bigger than the UK and the Church of England has 42 Dioceses. There is much need as the churches consider huge extra costs such as Bishops homes, transport, offices, etc.

The new Province will be called Igreja Anglicana de Mocambique e Angola – IAMA (Anglican church of Mozambique & Angola).

We pray for them and walk with them in partnership as they take these bold and vital steps.
